Southwest Mississippi Community College participates in the Mississippi Virtual Community College, a consortium of fifteen of Mississippi's community colleges. Through this consortium, we are able to offer our students additional course options.
To schedule an online class, you must first complete the admissions process. Once the admissions process is complete, you may contact your advisor for assistance in selecting classes.
Not all students are good candidates for online classes. To see if online classes may be a good option for you, take the READI assessment. The username is smcc and the password is readi. Once you are logged in, you will set up your individual account. You can stop and start the test again at any point. Start the test by clicking here.
It is the responsibility of the student to obtain textbooks for an online class that is taught by another community college. The information describing the textbook can be found on your Student Profile. There are many online bookstores that can provide you with the needed texts. If you would prefer, the SMCC bookstore can order your book for you. You will need to print your Student Profile to take to the bookstore. A deposit or a charge against your financial aid is required before the text will be ordered.
Make sure that you login to your course the first week of classes, even if you do not have your textbook yet. Instructors will drop students for non-attendance. You will be required to take at least one proctored test for each online class.
