Find Your Voice
Mr. Joe Elliott, Director of Choral Activities has been employed at Southwest Mississippi Community College for seventeen years. He continues to help students find a place at SMCC with the Concert Choir, which performs at various campus events and travels across the state to sing with other choirs and ensembles.
The SMCC Concert Choir will present Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana on January 30th, 2014 in conjunction with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra Chamber Ensemble and selected community solo artists.
Christmas Carol Tour
In December the SMCC Choir takes an annual trip around campus and thoughout the community, SMCC CONCERT CHOIR Where Students Find Their Voice bringing holiday cheer to local schools, businesses and medical facilities.
The Choir will present a fall concert on October 22nd and will include academic and collegiate choral literature. The small singing group will present some vocal jazz selections along with solo artists from the vocal studio.
The Choir will join with the SMCC concert band for the annual spring concert on April 3rd where both ensembles will present literature studied during the semester.
The Second annual sacred concert tour will be Sunday May4th at Centenary United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church, McComb.
The SMCC Choir is traveling to the Southern Invitational Choral Conference at USM in the fall and the Mississippi Community College Choral Festival in Meridian this spring. They also will be traveling to Memphis, Tn. after performing at another Mississippi university. While in Memphis the group will tour Graceland, Sun Studios, the Gibson Guitar factory, and will see Andrew Llloyd Weber’s Musical revue at the Orpheum Theatre.
