A Message From The Chief
Hello and welcome to our campus. The SMCC Police Department is a team of professionals working to provide a safe and secure environment in which the educational mission of the college can be fully realized. Our officers and staff are service-oriented and committed to the safety and well-being of those associated with SMCC.
We provide crime prevention and control, criminal investigation, traffic and parking supervision, disaster coordination, maintenance of public order, and other related law enforcement services.
We work closely with the Vice President of Student Affairs Office to ensure the policies and procedures of SMCC, as well as state and local laws, are uniformly executed and conveyed in a clear and consistent manner to our students, faculty and staff.
The SMCC Police Department’s primary mission and responsibility is to provide visible, professional, and courteous service for all students, employees, and visitors while on our campus. We will enforce SMCC policies, procedures and regulations, and all state and local laws.
Officers are in constant radio communication with Central Dispatch as well as all surrounding law enforcement agencies. Our office is located on the north side of the Brumfield Building on College Drive (south of the lake) and officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Sincerely,
Chief David L. Adams

Active Shooter Response Training
In the past years, events around the nation have raised the public’s awareness of active shooter situations and the unfortunate reality that similar events can occur anywhere and at any time. To keep the SMCC community informed about what to do in the event that a similar situation occurs on our campus, the SMCC Police Department is offering the Active Shooter Preparedness Training video to all students, faculty and staff.
Figure out the situation:
- What is going on?
- Where is it happening?
- Who is doing it?
Use all of your senses in your assessment and do it quickly. Trust Your Intuition – your gut feeling. Once you figure out what is going on, you will be better prepared to select one or more of the described actions in the Run-Hide-Fight paradigm. The Run-Hide-Fight paradigm addresses any active threats that may occur. These can include mass shooting incidents, attacks with various weapons or any acts of terrorism.
Active Violence Preparedness:
Mass attacks in crowds can happen anywhere and at any time. Acts of active violence includes individuals utilizing weapons such as knives, fires, drones or other weapons. It can also include the use of a vehicle to cause injury to individuals or the use of improvised explosive devices (IED).
Be sure to familiarize yourself with tips on protecting yourself and others from a mass attack.
Recognizing and Preventing Violence on Campus:
Campus violence covers a wide range of disruptive behaviors that may include but not limited to threats, harassment, intimidation, bullying, stalking, dating violence and sexual assault. You can make a difference by learning, recognizing and reporting these behaviors. Remember: AWARENESS + ACTION = PREVENTION.
