Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, & Refrigeration

About the Program

CIP 47.0201

The Heating and Air Conditioning program of study is a two-year certificate program comprised of both classroom instruction and laboratory experiments with students receiving training in welding, the laws of refrigeration, the basic refrigeration cycle, the purpose and operation of compressors, condensers, evaporators, metering devices, and oil coolers. The student learns how to troubleshoot, repair, and install all types of domestic and commercial refrigeration and heating systems. Also, he/she learns to estimate heating and cooling loads, to give job estimates, to care for tools and equipment, and to set up a service shop and safety. Students will have the opportunity to earn state/national certifications.

After successfully completing two years, an Associate of Applied Science degree or Certificate can be obtained. Students will also be subject to participation in national certification testing during the progression of the program.

  • Thermostat Screw Driver
  • Side Cutters
  • Needle Nose Plyers, (Harbor freight has a good set for not much)
  • Wire Strippers (needs to be able to strip 18 gauge solid)
  • Adjustable Wrench (Crescent Wrench)
  • Lineman Plyers (8” or 9” will give better leverage, used mainly to cut
    larger wire)
  • Tool Bag or Tool Backpack

  • Cordless impact/drill with ¼” and 5/16” nut driver and drill bit set
  • Manifold Gauge set with low-loss fittings designed for R410A Refrigerant
